Swimming texture on animated volume mesher

I’m breaking an object apart with voronoi fracture and placing it in a volume builder/mesher so it looks more like slightly melted cheese or chocolate (no hard edges) as it crumbles.

Unfortunately the pieces swim through the texture on the volume mesher as they fall apart. Is there a work around to get the texture to stick to individual pieces or do I need to come up with a different solution?
